How zakat on gold is calculated
Convert every piece to its pure-gold equivalent (weight × karat ÷ 24). If the total reaches 85 g of pure gold and you have held it for a full lunar year, zakat is 2.5% of its value at today's price. Example: 120 g of 21K = 105 g pure gold → above the nisab → zakat ≈ 1,304.77 SAR today.
Zakat on money
Cash and savings use the same nisab (the value of 85 g of gold = 42,250 SAR today). Add gold, silver and cash together when they are owned by the same person. For bars see gold bar prices.

Worn jewellery and timing
Scholars differ on whether zakat is due on jewellery worn regularly; many Saudi fatwas consider it due once it reaches the nisab, while others exempt personal jewellery. Zakat is calculated at the market value on the day it is paid, so use today's price when your lunar year completes.
