How we calculate prices

Gold price source

We take the international spot price of gold (USD per troy ounce) from market data providers and refresh it every few minutes during trading days, switching automatically to a backup source if needed.

Gram price formula

Gram price = (ounce price ÷ 31.1035) × (karat ÷ 24) × USD/SAR rate (3.75). For example, 22K gold is 22 parts pure gold out of 24, i.e. 91.6%.

Shop prices

New jewellery = gram price + average making charge for the karat, plus 15% VAT. Used gold = gram price − typical shop discount. These are indicative averages and vary between shops.

Bars and coins

Bar prices use the 24K gram price plus the usual dealer premium for each size; the premium falls as the bar gets heavier.

Currencies and oil

Exchange rates are official reference rates updated daily; bank, exchange-house and parallel-market rates may differ. Oil prices come from Brent and WTI crude futures.
