Is gold cheaper in one city than another?

No – the raw price per gram is identical across the Kingdom (today 22K = 455.63 SAR, 21K = 434.92 SAR). What differs is the making charge, the shop's margin and the design. Big souqs with many competing shops, such as those in Riyadh and Jeddah, usually offer the best making charges.

Souq or mall?

Traditional gold souqs have more shops and more room to negotiate the making charge; mall showrooms offer brands, designs and warranties at a higher price. Whichever you choose, ask for an itemised invoice showing karat, weight, making charge and VAT.
